Intelligent (manual) welding torch*

Innovation
The innovation presented here concerns a welding torch equipped with sensors of a completely new type that identify or change the welding position and automatically select the appropriate parameter for the welding device.

The optimum welding parameters for each position are stored once before the welding process begins and can then be automatically recalled via the hand-held unit (welding torch) using integrated sensor technology.

The operator does not have to go through the process of resetting the welding device or welding parameter for each change in position, as it would be necessary with conventional units. Instead, due to the continual welding process, he is able to weld a higher quality seam in a shorter time.

Welding torch

This means fewer rejects leading in turn to an additional drop in costs, a distinct increase in productivity and a significant contribution to process capability and quality.

This technology can be applied to any manual welding process where more than one position is being welded. As a rule, this is the case in the area of serial production with manual welding, small batches and special productions. It can also be applied in a wide variety of sectors in mechanical engineering. Examples include railway carriage, ship container, aircraft, bus and lorry construction, just to mention a few.

Keywords welding torch
  • Welding torch - manual welding -
  • Welding process MIG - MAG - TIG - PAW

Advantages welding torch
  • Automatic setting of welding parameters
  • Increased productivity and cost saving as no manual switchover is required by the operator
  • Lower error rate, as the positions are always welded with the same parameter
  • Very low wear (approx. 150,000 prints per printing screen)
  • Improvement in weld seam quality, enabling less re-checking

Areas of Application welding torch
  • Automotive
  • Rail
  • Marine
  • Aviation
  • Container
  • Pipelines
  • Container construction
