IPB in Asia
In northeast Asia, an unprecedented growth rate of patent applications can be recorded for the forth time in a row. With more than 27,000 applications in the year of 2007 Japan's inventors and companies are second just behind USA.
China had the highest growth rate on the Asian patent markets in 2007 with a plus of 38.1% compared to 2006. Due to this incredible rate the country overtook the Netherlands to become the 7th largest country of origin of PCT applications. The Republic of Korea is ranked position four with 7,061 applications and a growth rate of 18.8%.
As Asia has one of the fastest growing patent markets worldwide, IPB has established a liaison office in Tokyo to be as close to the market and decision makers as possible.
Selected patents
- Flame retardant*: Due to new legal regulations relating to toxicity and environmental aspects, the focus of interest has shifted towards the non halogenated flame retardants. The innovation claims the property right for two new halogen-free classes of substances, which are interesting targets for new eco-friendly, non-halogenated flame retardants.
- Impact modifier*: The new polymer additive based on nano technology is added to the reactive diluents to increase the transparency, impact strength and pull-out and shear strength. The technology can be adapted to various applications via building a block strategy.
- Organic electronics: manufacturing technology of the 2nd generation*
- Cell catalyst: biotechnological active substance factory*
- Cyclic peptides: antibiotics from a molecular production line*
